About me

A man with a gray beard and tattoos, wearing a gray tank top, is giving a massage to a person's leg. The setting appears to be indoors with warm lighting and a window showing green foliage outside.

I’m James Fox, the founder of SilverFox Massage and Bodywork.

After a long and stressful corporate career I learned the importance of self-care and mindfulness in sustaining a healthy, happy life. Through receiving massage myself over the years I recognized the value of bodywork and started my journey to becoming a massage therapist, graduating from Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork in 2025.

I offer Holistic and Deep Tissue massage services from my home in Bath, the wonderful Yurt at Westbury-on-Trym Wildlife Park and, if desired, the comfort of your own home.

I’ll also be hosting various therapeutic events throughout the year, so make sure you follow me on Instagram and from time-to-time I’ll have guest therapists joining me to offer the massage services you deserve.

Holistic Massage

While Sports Massage has become popular in recent years, and has its place in remediating specific injuries, it’s often more painful and uncomfortable and clinical in nature.

What many of us would benefit more from, is allowing our muscles to relax before being worked. If we remove tension, they return to their original length, allowing us to work into them more deeply if still needed, without much of the pain associated with Sports Massage.

Holistic massage considers your total self, and what you need to let go, physically or mentally.

Deep Tissue Massage

If your body is ready to receive it, Deep Tissue work can release locked fascia, undo knots and leave your body feeling like it’s been reset to where things should be.

It’s important to start with some relaxation work first, but if you really feel you prefer deeper work, we can carefully increase the depth and pressure for longer in key areas.

Typically we’ll have the massage table lower, so we can carefully lean into you with more bodyweight, all the time controlling the pressure with the other hand on the table.

Thai Yoga Massage

Traditional Thai Yoga Massage can be too intense for many, so I've adapted what I've learned to Western tastes, using mindful stretches and going as deep as you prefer.  You don't need to suffer (though if you want to please ask for more pressure!)

Thai massage can help to unlock your muscles from your skeleton, while still triggering the parasympathetic nervous system.  You are totally welcome to sleep!

Sound Experiences

On special occasions we will be joined by Dan Johnson, an experienced and talented local musician and percussionist, performing Gong Baths and accompanying our Thai Inspired Yoga Massages with Gong and percussion to create a truly unique experience.

Healing spaces

A well-considered massage space assists healing and relaxation. When you’re surrounded by a space that feels safe, where every detail has been considered, the body then knows that it can trigger para-sympathetic rest and repair process.

This in turn helps your mental relaxation, your muscles to soften and, if you want, to drift into half-sleep - a state that massage seems to trigger in many. Not unconscious sleep, but semi-present.

I’m carefully curating massage locations that support and encourage healing, I hope you’ll visit one.

Reviews

James’ massage exceeded my expectations. I wanted some restorative work after an intense period of crossfit, but I didn’t want the pain of a sports massage. James’ combination of relaxation and deeper pressure work was just what I needed!

James’ warm and cosy home was a delight and his massage was so relaxing I fell asleep! If you want a massage that revitalises you and resets your nervous system head to James. You won’t be disappointed.

Amazing! James is friendly, professional, and really listens to what you need. The massage was relaxing and effective, and I left feeling balanced and refreshed, and looking forward to my next one.
